Last Tuesday’s Lancaster City Council Meeting resulted in a unanimous decision from City officials to rename the Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery (LMAG) to the Lancaster Museum of Art and History. This name change was prompted by the Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery Associates, the non-profit fundraising group for the museum, which desired a more appropriate designation for the facility, particularly given its nearing relocation from Sierra Highway to The BLVD, the City’s premier destination hub.

The “Art Gallery” in LMAG’s name was found to be redundant and associated the museum with commercial art galleries that buy and sell artwork for profit. The City’s museum has been a free educational, cultural and arts resource for residents of Lancaster since 1986. The new name better communicates the mission of the museum in collecting, preserving, interpreting and exhibiting works of art and historical artifacts. The revised designation also positions the museum as a place where the Antelope Valley community can gather for artistic enlightenment and appreciation.

Hearing loss can be gradual and difficult to detect when it occurs over an extended period of time. Below are when you suspect you may be suffering from hearing loss.

1. Difficulty Hearing

The most obvious tip-off is a noticeable decline in the level of hearing. Sound may be muffled and it may sound like people are mumbling when they are really not. After hearing loss, because of the higher frequency of their voices. You may ask people to repeat themselves frequently and having a conversation with more than one person will become difficult.

2. Tinnitus

Sometimes a side effect of hearing loss is not the absence of sound, but hearing sounds that are really not there. You may begin to hear a ringing, roaring, buzzing, or hissing.These are sounds that can often follow loud concerts, but in the case of tinnitus, do not go away and can result in permanent hearing loss.

3. Non-Hearing-related Side Effects

Due to the difficulty of detecting hearing loss, you may suffer emotional side effectsbefore realizing the possibility for hearing loss. Often, sufferers of hearing loss . Additionally, because of the vital role the ear plays in balance, hearing loss can cause vertigo or difficulty balancing.

We decided, based on a recommendation by my In-Laws, to try this place for lunch today. Boy, what a treat! In the newly-still-being-redeveloped downtown Lancaster, there is a restaurant called BEX, and it looks more like either a modern art museum or even a metal-shop. But the food is awesome!

You walk in the door, and you are stunned by the decor – raw, unfinished steel i-beams make up the framing structure of the roof and supports. It looks kind of like the inside of a barn at first, but then you look up above the maitre d’ station and there is a huge chandelier and to the right is a very large fish tank that almost resembles a gigantic HDTV, but rest assured, it’s real. There is a bar which is separate from the restaurant, and apparently there is also a lounge (which we didn’t see).

You place your food order at the maitre d’ station and then they seat you. There are both booths and tables, all with very plush seats, and the tables have high backs, making them very comfortable. After being shown to your seat, you are free to roam and get your own soda/tea or what have you, as it’s all self-serve. Here’s where the cool starts. The soda vending machine is basically shaped like an ATM machine, with a touch screen that presents you with nearly 100 different options. This is VERY cool.

Bex has 2 of these puppies and they were very popular attractions I must say..and quite fun to play with. You can pick virtually any combination of Coca Cola product you can think of. Alone, these were well worth the trip if you are a soda drinker.

The menu is pretty vast in selection – from whole chickens to a whole tri-tip roast, to burgers, pastas, soups, chili and salads. We chose the MOAB (Mother Of All Burgers) which is a 3lb hamburger that can feed 2 to 4 people (shared it of course) and had an order of Garlic-Parmesan fries. The food is served up like you’d see on television, in a fancy restaurant. I tell ya, it’s like we were in the middle of downtown Hollywood eating in a fancy bistro – except we are in Lancaster!

The food was excellent, and we had to have dessert too. We had the “Monkey Balls” which although the name doesn’t sound appealing, they were quite tasty! It’s usually called “Monkey Bread”.

The waitress will ala-cart add any item you want at any time by taking your additional orders via a handheld PDA looking device, complete with mobile printer. The PDA device will swipe your credit card right there and then print out the receipt for you to sign. Very cool.

All in all, I highly recommend Bex for the food and the atmosphere, believe me you have not had an experience like this before.

The other day I received a phone call from someone, whom I did not know, looking for a friend of mine – Jim Seargeant.  He said he has been looking for him all over the internet and couldn’t find him. He said the only way he could find him was through my postings of him on my site! Through ilivetoday, amazingly enough!  He gave me his # and asked me to give it to Jim. He wants Jim to do some custom woodwork for him, has had him do some in the past and wants more done. He didn’t have Jim’s current cell phone number.

I called Jim and he was tickled I had another job lined up for him! Only through ilivetoday and Jim Greenleaf did this happen. It proved the power of having a great internet presence and “cloud”.

The Graphic Experience now has a HUGE “cloud”, with the sun shining right through! It’s going to become even bigger and brighter!!

It’s been an amazing learning journey, this whole social networking journey. It has great power and great advantages. Through daily postings, tweets, blogging,”liking” ,”commenting”, and posting photos and videos, my “cloud” has grown! I’ve made new friends, become better friends with the ones I already had, found old friends,  and have become even more aware of how people are inherently GOOD people ( at least the ones I surround myself with !) in cyberspace and otherwise.The world has become even more accessible! I can visit the Eiffel Tower, chat with friends on the East Coast or in Europe (in “real” time), listen to great musicians, all with the stroke of a key.  I truly enjoy this “New World”.
